When I create an outfit I enjoy paying attention to each and every detail so when I paired this bohemian chic top with my latest pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and suede platform booties I knew my hair needed braids. While my personal style changes from day to day I often find myself returning to bohemian chic elements. I suppose my inner flower child from high school never really faltered, but in turn evolved into a style that incorporates the boho pieces I gravitate towards today.
I also adore mixing vintage pieces with newer trends. During my freshman year at Rutgers University I stumbled upon this faux fur coat in an antique/vintage shop in downtown New Brunswick and simply could not resist. I should mention that this was also at a time when I discovered the Sex and the City series and the season in which Carrie Bradshaw wore one fabulous fur coat after another. So to channel my inner Carrie I left the store coat in hand.
Today this coat is still one of my most cherished wardrobe pieces. The top is from Francesca’s and was a birthday present from one of my best friends. It’s incredibly comfortable as well as flowy, which is why I chose to tuck the front into my boyfriend jeans. When wearing looser denim I typically stray away from also wearing a looser fitting top, but in this case I thought the two paired exceptionally well together.
I got these jeans from Hollister on sale for $15 and I love the fit and feel of them. I’ll be honest I haven’t regularly shopped at Hollister since I was a freshman in high school and jean skirts were everything to every girl traipsing the halls in mini skirts and Ugg boots. But after doing some Christmas shopping for my younger cousins I discovered that Hollister has changed with the times of fashion and since then I’ve picked up a few things for myself, these jeans included.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting the discovery of the perfect platform bootie to add to my ever-growing shoe collection and while birthday shopping in the mall with my dad I found exactly what I was looking for. I have to admit this was one of those shopping miracles in which the shoes were sitting on a miscellaneous table of jeans and the size was in fact mine. I could not have been more thrilled.
And last, but surely not least is this olive Diane Von Furstenburg Secret Agent handbag. I lusted over this handbag from the moment DVF launched the collection, but never got around to purchasing it. A year later I was in a Marshall’s in Boston during a girls weekend trip and low and behold the bag of my dreams was sitting in the handbag section of the store for half the price since it was out of season. I joked that I didn’t go to the bag, but in turn the bag came to me. My favorite part of the bag is that the front portion zips off and is a clutch that can be worn on its own. If it wasn’t already evident I have a knack for seeking out deals so I can shop more without feeling guilty and or draining my bank account.
This outfit was the perfect look for a day full of errands and transitioned into a great nighttime look for a movie and casual dinner with one of my best friends. Comfy yet chic styles are the best way to go for daytime looks that easily transition to night as well.
